With the support of member companies and local government agencies, the first Maritime Days in 2006 put on at Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington, WV was a great success. This was the first year the association helped put on such an event, and has now became an annual tradition. The focal point of the event is 2 or 3 working towboats that are tied off along the riverfront and opened to the general public to give them a glimpse into a towboater's life. There are also many displays at the event sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Coast Guard, which provides information to the public from topics ranging from water safety to why a navigable river system is so important to our nation.
